JESSICA NEWBERRY LE VAY

Jessica is a Junior Policy Fellow in Climate Change and Health at Imperial College London’s Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI) and an Affiliate of Imperial’s Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment. Jessica is part of Climate Cares, a joint initiative between IGHI and the Grantham Institute, which aims to understand and support mental health and wellbeing in the climate crisis. She works across policy, education, awareness raising and research.

Prior to joining Imperial, Jessica led Cancer Research UK’s policy research programme on cancer prevention, conducting and overseeing research to inform UK policy development on obesity, alcohol and tobacco. Her research focused primarily on children and young people, including the interplay between cancer risk factors with social determinants of health and mental health. While at Cancer Research UK Jessica also led a medical research sector-wide project on building research capacity in the UK’s National Health Service.

Jessica holds a MSc in Global Health from King’s College London with a specialist focus on disasters and adaptation, as part of which she collaborated with the MRC/Wits Rural Public Health and Health Transitions Research Unit in South Africa on research exploring barriers to accessing health care. She has a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. Jessica also works with global non-profit Chayn on developing resources to support survivors of gender-based violence.
